New Player Guide

What's an ARPG?

If you're brand new to the world of APRGs this is the page for you! Maybe you've dabbled in adopts or b/c shops before, or maybe you're completely new to the community. Regardless of your background, welcome!

ARPGs are Art Role Playing Games. These games revolve around developing a character (or characters) and producing some sort of art to continue their growth. They often mix elements of sim games, forum games and tabletop games to create an engaging experience. Some are based around fantasy species (like Itona!) and others around real world species (like HARPG.) Most ARPGs accept multiple forms of art, such as visual art and literature. ARPGs can be a great place to develop and practice your art skills, as your work is only ever compared against your own. This can make them a great place to get more comfortable with various styles and skills.

The most basic premise of ARPGs is produce a piece of art, receive a reward! You then use that reward to further develop your character, or to get a new character.

How Itona Works

To get started playing Itona you'll need to get a Hound of your own. Hounds can be obtained in many ways! All players can receive a Hound from the New Player Quest. You can also purchase a Hound from another player, be gifted a Hound or win a Hound from an Itona run game or event! Once you have a Hound you'll need to design it! This means using official Itona lineart to colour your Hound's listed phenotype, based on our design guides. If you are unable to make designs on your own you can commission others to design for you or earn staff design tokens. You can also choose to receive a pre-designed Hound from the New Player Quest!

Once you have a Hound you can begin participating in activities! Itona has several different types of activities that are always available - exploration, hunting, training and anything goes. Each can be found in the activities section.  Each activity has its own set of requirements, but you'll typically be required to make a piece of art in order to receive a semi-randomized reward! These rewards can be used to improve your Hound or handler, or get more Hounds!
