New beginnings
Naomi fidgeted with her hands switching between picking at her nails or fiddling with her fingers. She could see the land slowly appear over the horizon, her stomach filling with butterflies yet again.
Was she going to regret this decision?
It was her first time away from home and she didn't fully have a plan of what she was going to do after arriving in Ynnis especially after her original plan had fallen through. The young woman had begun plans for her move nearly a year ago as she and her childhood friend began making plans to spend the rest of their lives together and what better way than to begin than with an adventure in a new continent. Sadly the pair knew they were just deciding to settle with each other and it only became more and more obvious to Naomi as her friend pulled away from her only to destroy what was left of their relationship by leaving town a month before their original plans with no words exchanged between the two. If Naomi didn't already have so much invested in their plans she would have just continued to live with her parents but she had already said her good byes to her employer and was too hurt to return to them with her tail between her legs and canceling her contract with the landlord they had found would have cost even more than if she just went.
"Excuse me ma'am," A man interrupted the young woman's spiral of self-doubt, at a closer look Naomi recognized him as someone important on the ship, "It won't be much longer before we dock, you should begin to get her your belongings."
She nodded, giving him a quick thanks, she had been so lost in her thoughts she didn't notice that she was now able to make out more and more details of the town they were approaching. It didn't take her long to get ready she didn't bring much more than clothes, by the time she was sure she had everything she boarded with and returned to the deck all the men working on the ship were focused on bringing it safely to the dock.
Naomi hung back watching the rest of the passengers excitedly exit the boat and even waited for some of the supplies were unloaded before taking a deep breath and making her way onto the new land. The docks were busy, far busier than she had expected for a continent that had just been discovered and while surprising it was a bit comforting that it seemed like businesses were doing well so hopefully finding a job wouldn't be too difficult.
Getting through customs didn't take long luckily just a quick verification of her paperwork along with double checking that she hadn't snuck anything onto the island with her. They ushered her past them with a quick 'Enjoy ynnis' directing her into a large crowd of people. She wasn't sure if they were new citizens just as lost as she was or if they were just the welcome party, it was so loud and pushy she ended up having to shove her way to the other side prying a few hands that tried to grab and hold onto her wrists.
On the other end of the huddle of people on the street opened up into an airy and open market place, the one thing that she had known to expect from the little correspondence she had with her new landlord. He said he would be waiting further into Ynnis than just on the docks and now she understood why.
Slowly making her way to the established meeting spot Naomi began to chew her lip nervously still debating if she should just give up and return home. Just as she had nearly decided to accept her loses an unknown creature bounded into her with an excited bark.
"Mm," a short old man grumbled, "Looks like Toller has taken a liking to you, he doesn't like many."
"Oh," Naomi began a response only to be cut off by him again.
"You must be Naomi, only lost looking little girl I've seen today." He declared before turning and beginning to walk away from her demanding she follows him. "You're lucky I was able to switch things around to accommodate your circumstances, now don't go gettin' used to it. I don't make exceptions often and I didn't want to deal with all the legal hoopla. You got two months to cover the first two months of rent, if you can't do that best be looking for another place to stay."
Naomi was shocked into silence, the man was blunt and straight forward in a way she wasn't used to, "Yes, sir." She answered with a nod following him to a small building, it was as if 3 skinny homes had been pressed into each other to the point that they became one. The gruff old man she still didn't have a name for other than "the landlord" stopped at the door at the far end of the building, she could tell just from the exterior that this section of the building was far smaller than all the others but wasn't going to complain knowing it would make her rent and by extension her life easier.
"If you can't find a job by the end of the month come talk to me, my wife's been complaining about needing help with keeping her kennels clean." He said before dropping a set of keys into the young woman's hand and left without another word, the dog following close at his heels.
All Naomi could do for a second was just stand there and blink as she processed the whole interaction. She turned and unlocked the door letting herself into what was now her home.
Naomi has arrived in Ynnis still unsure of her decision
